United in Peace Rides Foster Community Unity Across Los Angeles

Each month, United in Peace organizes Peace Rides that traverse communities throughout Los Angeles and surrounding areas, aiming to bridge divides and foster unity. More than a procession of motorcycles and cars, these events are designed to engage residents and encourage dialogue across neighborhoods, cultures, races, and faiths.

The rides bring together bikers, low-riders, clergy, community leaders, car and motorcycle clubs, and concerned citizens. Participants travel through areas that have experienced violence or division, distributing peace-oriented materials such as The Way to Happiness booklet and the Million Man March pledge. The goal is to help people see one another as members of the same community and to encourage understanding, respect, and cooperation.

At the conclusion of each ride, a Peace Festival is held, featuring professional performers in hip-hop, R&B, and gospel, along with local talent. The organization describes this as "edutainment," combining education, community engagement, and entertainment in an environment where people can connect.

The Los Angeles Police Department has supported the rides by assisting with safety along routes and neighborhood stops. Residents often come out to wave and show support, reflecting the growing familiarity of the Peace Rides in the communities they visit.

For over 14 years, the United in Peace Foundation, a multiethnic and multi-faith movement, has organized these events. The organization reports distributing more than 70,000 copies of The Way to Happiness and reaching over 2.4 million people through events and media coverage.

United in Peace points to encouraging changes in violence rates in areas where events have occurred. An LAPD captain noted that over the same 14-year period, the violent death rate in South Los Angeles decreased at times by as much as 40%. While many factors contribute, United in Peace believes its sustained efforts play a meaningful role.

Mayors and members of Congress have issued commendations recognizing the organization's efforts. United in Peace welcomes organizations and individuals committed to building safer communities. Nonprofits promoting peace may apply to host booths at the Peace Festival. For more information, follow on Instagram @peacerideLA.

The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has supported the rides for over 14 years, providing The Way to Happiness booklets, written by L. Ron Hubbard. The booklet is available at www.thewaytohappiness.org.
