VERAXA Biotech Advances VXA-222 bsADC Program and Expands Patent Portfolio

VERAXA Biotech AG (NASDAQ: VRXA) has reached a pivotal development milestone in its oncology pipeline. The company announced that its VXA-222 bispecific antibody-drug conjugate (bsADC) program has successfully completed the discovery phase and is now advancing into the next stage of development. This progress follows the completion of the discovery portion of VERAXA’s collaboration with OmniAb Inc., which began in May 2025 (https://nnw.fm/nIprz).

During the collaboration, OmniAb delivered a portfolio of therapeutic antibody binders. With this discovery work concluded, VERAXA will now focus on engineering the final bispecific ADC candidate by integrating these binders with its proprietary antibody engineering, linker, and conjugation technologies. Although VXA-222 is not based on VERAXA’s BiTAC platform, it represents one of the company’s most advanced development programs, leveraging its core expertise to create a novel therapeutic for difficult-to-treat cancers.

In parallel, VERAXA has significantly expanded its intellectual property portfolio. The company recently filed its first patent applications related to its BiTAC platform, along with additional patents covering conjugation chemistry, payloads, and antibody technologies. This expansion brings VERAXA’s total to more than 50 granted owned or exclusively licensed patents across 26 patent families in 14 countries. The newly filed applications are expected to extend protection into at least 2047, safeguarding the company’s innovative approaches for years to come.

“We are excited to advance VXA-222 into the next stage of development, marking a key achievement for our pipeline,” said a company spokesperson. “The successful completion of the discovery phase with OmniAb underscores our ability to leverage external collaborations while strengthening our own proprietary technologies. Our expanding patent portfolio further solidifies our position as an emerging leader in designing novel cancer therapies.”

VERAXA continues to build a diversified oncology pipeline that includes bispecific antibody-drug conjugates, T-cell engagers, and engineered antibody formats. These programs are aimed at addressing challenging cancers that currently have limited treatment options. The company’s strategic focus on both internal innovation and strategic partnerships positions it to make meaningful contributions to the field of cancer therapeutics.
