VolitionRx announced a collaboration with Sysmex to advance its Nu.Q® NETs assay, targeting a $3.8 billion market for NETosis-related diseases like sepsis.

VolitionRx Limited (NYSE American: VNRX) has entered into a collaboration with Sysmex (TYO: 6869) to optimize its Nu.Q® NETs H3.1 assay on Sysmex’s diagnostic platform, according to a press release. The partnership aligns with Volition’s strategy of licensing its proprietary Nu.Q® NETs technology to established global diagnostics companies that can leverage their disease expertise, regulatory capabilities, and installed analyzer base to accelerate development and commercialization.
The collaboration has progressed beyond assay transfer and into the optimization phase for diseases associated with NETosis, a process implicated in conditions including sepsis and other acute and chronic diseases. Volition believes the Nu.Q® NETs assay could provide improved diagnostic information, support patient monitoring, and address a commercial opportunity with an estimated total addressable market of $3.8 billion.
NETosis is a form of programmed cell death that releases neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which are implicated in various inflammatory and thrombotic conditions. The Nu.Q® NETs assay detects histone citrullination, a key marker of NETosis, and could potentially aid in early diagnosis and monitoring of sepsis, a life-threatening condition that affects millions worldwide. By partnering with Sysmex, a global leader in diagnostic solutions, Volition aims to expedite the assay’s path to market and enhance its accessibility to healthcare providers.
Volition is a multinational company focused on advancing the science of epigenetics. Through its subsidiaries, Volition is developing and commercializing simple, easy-to-use, cost-effective blood tests to help detect and monitor a range of diseases, including some cancers and diseases associated with NETosis, such as sepsis. Early detection and monitoring have the potential not only to prolong the life of patients but also to improve their quality of life.
The collaboration with Sysmex is a significant step forward for Volition’s Nu.Q® NETs program. By leveraging Sysmex’s global reach and expertise, Volition can accelerate the development and commercialization of the assay, potentially bringing it to patients faster. This partnership also validates Volition’s technology and its potential to address unmet needs in the diagnosis and monitoring of NETosis-related diseases.
