This payment marks the first major non-dilutive funding under the agreement, which was originally signed on February 10, 2026. The company's Houston R&D team successfully demonstrated its proprietary Mueller iodine extraction process, producing iodine at 99.8% purity from Anadarko Basin produced water. This technical validation was essential for Bayer to advance the program, and the transportable pilot plant is nearing completion, with field operations scheduled to begin this fall.

The milestone payment brings Voyageur's total received from Bayer to USD $1.35 million, with the remaining USD $1 million scheduled for release upon completion of the feasibility study. If successful, Voyageur may construct and deploy additional 200-tonne units, potentially expanding capacity to the full 1,000 tonnes. A central manufacturing facility would then process the iodine concentrate into USP pharmaceutical-grade iodine for use in contrast drugs. This initiative is part of Voyageur's broader strategy to vertically integrate the supply chain for radiology drugs, reducing reliance on imported raw materials and enhancing supply-chain security.

Fluor has been providing engineering, thermodynamic modeling, and project planning support, with work progressing on schedule. The subsequent engineering phases will move through FEL-2 (Concept Design) and FEL-3 (Basic Design) to define a demonstration-scale configuration. The FEL-2 phase is expected to take four to five months, followed by FEL-3 at seven to nine months, with increasing engineering definition and cost accuracy. The global contrast media market is estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion, as noted in a market research report.

Willis added that Voyageur is focused on building multiple revenue streams through a staged commercialization strategy, including near-term barium contrast sales, iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, and longer-term contrast drug sales. The company plans to provide further updates as feasibility work progresses. This milestone underscores the potential for establishing a domestic, high-purity iodine supply for Bayer's contrast drug manufacturing, a critical step toward securing the supply chain for essential medical imaging agents.
