A WalletHub study highlights the varying levels of stress across American cities, identifying Detroit as the most stressed and Fremont as the least, based on factors like unemployment and divorce rates.

A recent WalletHub study has shed light on the stress levels across American cities, pinpointing Detroit, Michigan, as the most stressed city and Fremont, California, as the least. The study, which compared over 180 cities using 39 metrics, including average weekly work hours, unemployment rates, and divorce and suicide rates, offers a comprehensive look at how stress manifests differently across the country.
Among the findings, Rapid City, South Dakota, boasts the lowest unemployment rate, significantly lower than Detroit's, which has the highest. Similarly, Fremont not only leads as the least stressed city but also has the lowest divorce rate, contrasting sharply with Cleveland, Ohio, where the rate is highest. Health and income disparities were also notable, with Cheyenne, Wyoming, having the lowest share of adults in fair or poor health, and Columbia, Maryland, enjoying the highest median annual household income adjusted by cost of living.
This study is crucial as it not only maps stress across the U.S. but also highlights the underlying factors contributing to these stress levels, offering insights into potential areas for policy intervention and community support.
