Five Weston Girl Scouts have been honored with the Gold Award for their innovative projects addressing community challenges, from environmental education to mental health support.

Five young women from Weston have been recognized with the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor for Girl Scout seniors and ambassadors, for their exceptional projects aimed at solving pressing issues in their communities. Sophia Diaz, Anneliese Hsiao, Valerie Niksa, Julie Saff, and Victoria Valdivieso each developed unique initiatives that have made a lasting impact.
Sophia Diaz focused on environmental education with her project, 'Shark-In-A-Box,' designed to change perceptions about sharks through educational kits. Anneliese Hsiao addressed pet safety in South Florida with a comprehensive guide, while Valerie Niksa tackled the issue of declining self-esteem among young girls through a creative initiative. Julie Saff brought music to elderly residents in care facilities to combat loneliness, and Victoria Valdivieso created a children's book to ease fears about medical procedures.
These projects not only showcase the girls' dedication to their communities but also highlight the importance of youth leadership in addressing societal challenges. The Gold Award recognizes their ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and implement projects that have a meaningful and lasting impact.
