Yalitza Aparicio to Receive Georgia Latino Film Alliance Icon Award at GALIFF XV

The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) announced that Academy Award-nominated actress Yalitza Aparicio will receive the Georgia Latino Film Alliance Icon Award at the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF XV), scheduled for September 30–October 4, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The award recognizes individuals whose careers and influence have significantly advanced Latino culture in film and entertainment.

Aparicio gained international acclaim for her role in Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, earning a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards. That performance positioned her as a prominent figure for Mexican and Latino representation in global cinema. According to GALFA, Aparicio's impact extends beyond acting; she is a voice for cultural pride and visibility, inspiring audiences across borders.

Yvette Moïse, President and Co-Founder of GALFA, emphasized the significance of the award: "Yalitza Aparicio represents the power of cinema to transcend borders, elevate our culture, and allow our stories to be seen around the world. The recognition is particularly notable as GALIFF celebrates its 15th anniversary with Mexico serving as the Guest Country of Honor. GALIFF XV will run from September 30 through October 4, 2026, with the Opening Night and award presentation on September 30 at the Fox Theatre. Additional screenings will take place across Atlanta from October 1–4. Sponsors for the event include the Fox Theatre, Olé Mexican Foods, and others.
