To ensure a lasting repair, Young's saw-cut and removed the damaged asphalt at both locations, then paved the repaired areas with three inches of new asphalt before the surrounding lot received its overlay.

The resurfacing process also included transitional milling, which grinds down the existing pavement where new asphalt meets old, ensuring a smooth tie-in without a raised lip. The remainder of the lot received a full overlay: cleaning and preparation, transitional milling at lock-in points, a tack coat, a base layer of asphalt, and a two-inch wearing course. The wearing course, the top layer exposed to traffic and weather, sits on the base layer, and both are laid as part of the same paving operation.

This project underscores the importance of proper site preparation and repair in commercial paving. By addressing the underlying causes of pavement failure and using techniques like transitional milling, contractors can extend the life of the surface and prevent recurring issues.
