In a blog post related to decision-making, adapted from his new book The Earned Life, renowned leadership expert and bestselling author Marshall Goldsmith talks about how your decisions are essential to creating the life you want.
Goldsmith writes, “One of the things you must decide in creating an earned life is what you want that life to look like, and then work as hard as necessary to make your decision come true. No one but you can paint that vision. The influential people in your life may offer the intellectual and emotional tools to help you choose a wise path. But in the end, the choice is yours alone to make.”
Russia’s energy plans are stalled because of its decision to invade Ukraine. Russia’s $21 billion project known as Arctic LNG 2 for gas liquefaction is unlikely to be completed. As a result of Russia’s aggression, the project’s key international backer, TotalEnergies, recently wrote off its $4.1 billion investment. Russia is likely to be forced into retreat for many other energy projects. Future growth for its oil and gas exports, which have driven the company’s economy, are now uncertain. The blowback from the Ukraine invasion even affected nuclear power, as Finland recently shelved a deal for Russia to build an estimated 7 billion euro ($7.4 billion) reactor. Decisions have consequences.
In The Earned Life Goldsmith uncovers the source of today’s existential crises, including regrets that stem from choices that irrevocably alter our lives, reroute destinies, and haunt our memories. These are particularly timely themes today.
With Goldsmith’s book as a guide, readers can close the gap between what they plan to achieve and what they actually get done—even in a world full of inescapable unfairness and curveballs—and live an earned life that is fulfilling in the long run.
